Annapolis Pony Club celebrates 60 years of learning, growth, and achievement!
Annapolis Pony Club registered with the United States Pony Clubs, Inc., on January 24, 1963. The following year, The United States Pony Club President Howard J. Morris Jr. reported that USPC had over 6,000 members. By 2009, USPC President Thomas Adams documented membership at an all-time high of over 10,000. We are proud that Annapolis Pony Club is still a robust, active club sixty years later!
As the 2023 Pony Club Rally season begins, we want to publicly acknowledge our past APC Alumni, families, and volunteers on our social media platforms. Our current members are here today, six decades later, because of your dedication to this club. Thank you for your support and the time commitments you and your families made to help APC grow into the fun, competitive club it is today!
Along with this fantastic 60-year milestone, we are excited to announce a new APC Logo. This new logo emphasizes our traditional State Capitol symbol, has a larger font, and includes two horse disciplines with clean lines for embroidery and multi-media display.
"The United States Pony Clubs, Inc. started in 1954 to teach riding and the proper care of horses. It is based on The British Pony Club, which was created in 1929 as a junior branch of the Institute of the Horse. Since then, Pony Club has expanded to many countries around the world, with the main goal being to promote sportsmanship, stewardship and leadership through horsemanship." Meagan: this is my old mount, Delancy aka White Zinfandel, and I, when we were about 15? She was awesome. Kim Puschert was not only my DC, mentor and instructor, but she was my 2nd mom and i still have the privilege of having her in my life despite the distance bet us. I learned a lot from being in APC, and still carry it with me 20 years later. Never give up, always keep trying, do your best, and hard work pays off.
My Beloved Aunt and namesake, lifelong Annapolis resident Jacqueline Spell, helped in the start of the Annapolis Pony Club... I owe all my Love of horses solely to her
Awards ceremony at Eventing rally at Fairhill, year possibly 2004?? Shown is Julianne Horkey, Myself, Brooke Garman, Jeannette Lazzaro, Lisa Stokes. Myself and Jeannette Lazzaro met in pony club and are still best friends today!
I lied, this was a games rally! We were called the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Pony club was my whole child hood, so many great memories that I hope to one day give to Caroline. Cheers to 60 years!
I don’t recall the year, but probably sometime around 1985 or so? Jumping rally at the PG Equestrian Center. I don’t recall the names of the other ladies on the team with me besides, our stable manager Cheryl Ragland Pace. I’m all the way to the right and I’m pretty sure the second horse from the left is the famous Jamie owned by Kim Puschert.
Heidi Lyn Jamie aka Jamist was previously owned by Karen Sosnowski, another APC alumna, and she kept him at the little lesson barn where I was a weekly lessoner! She took him Prelim eventing and was my first look into Pony Club and eventing.

My pony club days were some of the best in my life. I was at Kim and Mr. Skipper’s barn in Annapolis. We had such a great group of girls at the farm during my time there.
When my daughter Ashley Nicole was young, I tried to get her involved in pony club, but she wasn’t interested because she just liked going fast and doing barrel racing. Well, it’s come full circle now…. I convinced her to take a lesson with my other trainers, from back in the day, Janice Binkley and now my daughter is an adult member of Pony Club. She has absolutely fallen in love with eventing and is learning so much!
